MEET SUSAN
Susan has spent the better part of the last 40 years wearing a long-sleeved rash guard in a Charleston area pool surrounded by her eager swim students-and she wouldn’t have it any other way. She believes everyone should learn how to swim. Susan’s passion for swimming trickles down to her students. What's important to Susan is that her kids feel comfortable in the water, learn new things, and have fun! Each lesson with Susan is tailored to the individual student. She doesn’t believe in standardized “levels” to be completed before moving up a skill set. She believes each student has unique needs and talents and ensures that students will leave a lesson more confident in the water. Susan teaches everything from the foundations of swimming to advanced stroke technique. Many of her students have gone on to become nationally ranked swimmers. Susan’s own competitive swim career has spanned 12 years through her first year of college. She trained under famed swim coach, Frankie Bell, who received an Olympic Gold Medal from her student in 1984. She has won 127 blue ribbons and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1982. In her spare time, you’ll find her swimming laps at the Park West Recreational Center and playing with her granddaughter.
